Apologies (again) for the lack of updates folks. Raechel and I are still busily working away at the edit, and on Thursday night we'll be holding our first review screening of the film's first act with some of the key members of the creative team. More news about that should hopefully be coming later this week. In the meanwhile, let's get back to our retrospective behind the scenes coverage.
Block eight of production took place over one weekend in mid Feburary. The parents of Jeremy Hopkins (who plays "Raydar" in the film) were kind enough to let us film in their attic space, which Jeremy normally uses to teach drumming. The location was perfect for the band rehearsal and meeting scenes and I was particularly happy with the mirrors in the room which were very helpful in terms of covering four people who are talking (or playing) all at once.
The only hiccup in our plan was that this weekend turned out to be incredibly warm, with temperatures on both days approaching 40 degrees celsius. Add ten to fifteen people in an attic without open windows & air con and you have a location which is VERY VERY VERY hot. The entire cast & crew were absolute troopers and I have to give them all a special thanks for putting in so much hard work in such trying conditions.
Despite the heat, this was one of my favourite weekends of shooting. We not only got to shoot two musical performances (which are always a lot of fun), but in my opinion the dialogue scenes we shot in this block feature some of the best performances in the entire film. All in all, everyone did a fantastic job and I couldn't be more happy!
